Best Rooftop Bar in Bangkok: Spectrum Lounge and Bar
Parents rejoice! At last, I found a country where kids are allowed to visit rooftop bars! I love, love, love a good roof top bar. As the night covers the city, you can watch the spectacle of twinkling lights, roads with moving cars and gleaming skyscrapers unfold in front of you.
I have tried to go to a rooftop bar with my kids for awhile now, but both Dubai and Singapore were not allowing kids in their bar areas due to legal restrictions.
Can you imagine my joy when I discovered that in Thailand the guidelines are more relaxed and some bars do allow parents with kids?
When I was in Bangkok 10 years ago , at the time there was the one and only rooftop bar, which I believe was later featured in a famous Hollywood movie.
But as time passed, more and more new rooftop locations have opened and you are free to choose where to go.
I looked up which rooftop bars have recently opened and Spectrum Lounge and Bar fitted the bill perfectly. It is part of the newly opened Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit Hotel and boy, it is spectacular!
The bar has two floors and at the time of the visit, the second floor was not accessible due to private event. But fear not, the floor below also offered fantastic views and sumptuous sitting areas.
The bar menu is concise and not very long. To be honest, I prefer menus like that, rather than to have an encyclopedia to choose from and then staff struggling to remember how to make a particular drink.
Have you ever had a bartender looking up in a book how to make your drink? I did. Fear not, it will not happen at Spectrum Lounge and Bar!
We ordered “Hole in the Wall” creation and I nearly shrieked with excitement when they brought it over. Magnificent glassware, marshmallow on a stick, which is then slightly roasted by a member of serving staff, and a view to die for!
The drinks are served with small snacks and these are refreshed throughout your visit.
Kids loved large sofas and looking outside, trying to locate different objects down below and count all the twinkling lights they could see. We were seated in the outside area, but if it is raining, there is plenty of space inside and there was also live music at the time when we visited.
But let’s not forget what we came here for. The main hero is the view. I can sit and stare at a view like this for hours. Spectrum Lounge and Bar is located on Level 29-30, so you are high enough and get to see a fantastic panorama over downtown Bangkok.
A few things to remember if you are planning to visit Spectrum Lounge and Bar. Ladies – you are very welcome to dress up as it will make everyone’s time more enjoyable and sandals are not permitted for men.
We were there for drinks only, but you can have a full meal if you prefer.
I did not have a chance to look at the menu, but I saw some dishes on the tables and they looked great, so I am sure you will be in for a treat.
Our visit was hosted by Spectrum Bar and Lounge, but all opinions are my own.
